The American Trucking Associations is proud to pledge our commitment as a "First Mover" in the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Roadway Safety Strategy. The NRSS is a roadmap for addressing the national crisis in roadway fatalities and serious injuries. Almost 95 percent of the nation’s transportation deaths occur on its streets, roads, and highways.
As a safety-first industry, we share USDOT's goal of zero fatalities. Our industry invests more than $10 billion annually in safety technology, programs, and training. As a NRSS First Mover, ATA will help further advance this joint safety by:
- Increasing outreach to schools nationwide to teach younger drivers the importance of sharing the road responsibly with large vehicles;
- Strengthening our industry's relationship with law enforcement to better align our resources toward highway safety objectives; and
- Elevating the motoring public's awareness on how to safely navigate work zones as new highway maintenance and construction programs get underway following passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
We'll continue to update this page with news and resources as our work progresses across these three core pillars. For more information on USDOT's NRSS, visit their website.
