Following his unanimous approval by the United States Senate, General Randall Reed assumed command of the United States Transportation Command (TRANSCOM), a key stakeholder in the movement of household goods for servicemembers.

The American Trucking Associations’ Moving & Storage Conference sent a letter to General Reed congratulating him on his new role.  MSC noted that professional movers take tremendous pride in their responsibility for relocating more than 300,000 servicemembers and their families annually.

“The men and women of ATA-MSC and the small and medium sized companies that they represent are honored to fulfill this service and be a trusted partner to TRANSCOM, ensuring military moves are efficient, dependable and without disruption,” wrote Daniel Hilton, Executive Director of ATA’s Moving and Storage Conference.

“As you transition into this important role, and TRANSCOM continues its transition to the Global Household Goods Contract (GHC), the ATA-MSC looks forward to collaborating closely with you and your staff to ensure the perspectives and needs of movers are fully considered,” Hilton continued. “We are committed to working together to address any challenges and ensure that service members and their families continue to receive the highest level of service and support during their relocations.”

MSC has been leading efforts to address shortcomings with GHC by engaging with TRANSCOM and urging Members of Congress to exercise strict oversight of the program.

Language secured by MSC in the FY2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) would require a GAO report to address concerns raised by MSC no later than April 1, 2025, and also require TRANSCOM to provide an initial assessment of the transition by December 31, 2024.
