During this webinar, motor carriers will gain an understanding of asset protection strategies and ever-evolving case law related to corporate separateness. They’ll also learn about the current recommended best practices to mitigate risk in the developing legal environment, and how to modify and evolve their transportation platform in a hard insurance market.

Greg Feary is President and Managing Partner at the Scopelitis firm in Indianapolis, Indiana. His practice includes transportation law, Independent Contractor (IC) law, transportation insurance law, legislative support, and
transportation contract matters. He audits clients’ IC programs and provides legislative support on IC issues. He counsels clients on alternative risk programs, conducts insurance audits, and supervises litigation in the areas of premium disputes and specialized transportation insurance coverage controversies. Greg regularly designs IC programs and defends IC disputes. Greg is a member of the Indianapolis, Indiana State and American Bar Associations. He is a member of ATA’s Insurance Task Force for which he has served as Chair of its Lawyer’s Subcommittee and IC Committee; and the Advisory Board of Purdue University’s Center for Transportation Distribution Logistics. Greg serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law-Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He is the author of The Definitive Industry Primer on Occupational Accident Insurance in Trucking, and the Independent Contractor Employment Classification: A Survey of State and Federal Laws in the Motor Carrier Industry, 35 Trans. Law J. 139(2008). He drafted Indiana’s law deeming owner-operators of trucks to be ICs for purposes of workers’ compensation. He received his B.A. from Eastern Illinois University, and J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.

J.D. Robinson is an attorney at the Scopelitis firm in Indianapolis, IN and serves clients on a wide variety of legal issues directly affecting the transportation industry including regulatory compliance; corporate structuring and business transactions; labor and employment; and IRP, IFTA and DOT issues. Mr. Robinson also assists carriers and manufacturers with various issues related to Electronic Logging Devices, including third party review of manufacturer's self-certification requirements, auditing of logs and wage and hour compliance. He attended Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
Jay Robinson, Partner, Scopelitis, Garvin, Light, Hanson, & Feary
Jay D. Robinson, Jr. is a partner with experience representing a wide range of clients in various types of transactions, mergers, and acquisitions. His areas of practice include representation of both buyers and sellers for company sales and acquisitions through the Scopelitis firm’s national client base and advising clients with respect to company restructuring in the context of the current business environment for transportation companies. Mr. Robinson also has significant experience advising clients on landlord-tenant issues. He has written and spoken on numerous issues regarding various transactions within the transportation industry, including before the Annual Conventions of the American Trucking Associations, the National Accounting and Finance Council of the American Trucking Associations, the Transportation Lawyers Association, and the Indiana Motor Truck Association. He recevieved his B.A. from Southern Methodist University and his J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
Katie Feary-Gardner, Partner, Scopelitis, Garvin, Light, Hanson, & Feary
Kathryne S. Feary-Gardner counsels clients on a wide array of transportation-related issues, including representing buyers and sellers in company sales and acquisitions, challenges to independent-contractor classification, and investigations conducted by TSA regarding air-cargo safety regulations. Kathryne practices corporate and business law, with an emphasis on acquisitions, mergers, and restructuring transactions within the transportation industry. Kathryne also counsels clients on corporate structure and related risk-mitigation. She received her B.A. magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan and her J.D. Indiana University Maurer School of Law.
